McCulla has spent the last eight years at Clark State, where he served as Student Service Coordinator and then Director of Athletics. Over the previous six years, he has been the Director of Athletics, changing the culture of the Athletic Department.
Before starting his career in Athletics, McCulla started his Higher Education career at Urbana University in Urbana, OH, as a Transfer Counselor and then promoted up to the Associate Director of Admissions. Over his time as Director of Athletics, Clark State has had more student-athletes named to Academic All-Conference, Academic All-Americans, and Athletic Honors than prior administrations. He has engineered a coaching staff that has been able to elevate the quality of players to where several student-athletes are transferring to play at a Four Year level School.
In 2016, he was named the Director of Athletics and Student Life and immediately put his core values in place. Not long after, the Conference voted him to the position of Softball Chair and then in the role of Assistant Commissioner and Chair for Men’s and Women’s Basketball that he currently holds. While at the athletic helm, he implemented several programs and initiatives:
Most individuals also know McCulla as something much different. Over the past twenty years, he has been a baseball and football official, and he has worked all levels from youth up to college.
McCulla graduated from Urbana University with his Bachelor’s of Science in Sports Administration in 2008 and then with his Master’s of Education in Classroom Curriculum in 2013. He is married to Emily McCulla, and they have two sons and one daughter.

- Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
- Redefined Student-Athlete safety measures.
- Increased operating budgets.
- Increased retention.
